The anticipation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
